Florence High School Recognized as a 2013 NCEA Higher Performing School

Recognition as an NCEA Higher Performing School indicates a school’s deep commitment to raising student achievement and putting more students on the path to college and career readiness, regardless of socio-economic barriers or any other obstacles that might otherwise impede success. “These schools stand out as shining examples of what can be achieved when staff, students and parents work together toward a unified goal of better preparing students for life after high school,” states Susan Carlson, Executive Director of Arizona Business and Education Coalition (ABEC). “As Arizona continues implementation of the Common Core Standards, this hard work will pay off for students and families.”

NCEA identifies Higher Performing Schools based on one or both of two measures: 1) consistent improvement in student achievement from previous years (growth), and/or 2) an above-predicted percentage of continuously enrolled students scoring at the Exceeds level on Arizona’s Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS).NCEA's higher performing methodology includes controls for school and student demographics that allow for an apples-to-apples comparison of school achievement and demonstrate that, with the commitment of educators, all schools can have success no matter the ZIP Code.

Message from the Principal

Dear FHS Students, Parents and Community Members:

On March 5th and 6th a team of educators from the North Central Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement visited Florence High School.  The team spent two days observing classes, looking at data, and interviewing a variety of parents, students and staff members.  I am very pleased to announce that the team was very impressed with FHS, and that we passed our accreditation review with flying colors.  The accreditation team gave our school numerous excellent compliments, but the one that really hit home with me was when they each said that they would want their own kids to go to a school like this one.  That is reason for all of us to be proud.   Thank you for all of your efforts to help make FHS such a great place for our students to learn.

Respectfully,
